ASSET MANAGEMENT

Institutional asset management across Europe

Montclare brings institutional-grade asset management to private clients, family offices and investors. We manage much of this ourselves — real estate and investment holdings in particular — and bring in specialist licensed managers only where an activity is regulated, such as discretionary securities or fund management. Real estate sits at the core of the practice.

Holding & Portfolio Structuring

How assets are owned and held across borders, aligned with your cross-border tax position.

HOW WE WORK

Source. Structure. Manage.

01
Source
We identify and access the right assets, often off-market.
02
Structure
We design the ownership and holding structure around your goals.
03
Manage
We manage the assets directly, coordinating financing and any licensed managers where an activity is regulated.
WHY MONTCLARE

Unlisted deal flow, structured under one roof

Our edge is access and coherence: high-quality deal flow, real estate and holdings we manage directly, and the legal, tax and structuring support that holds it all together — under one roof. We do the work ourselves and bring in specialist licensed managers only where regulation requires it.

SELECTED MANDATE

Selected real estate mandate

International investors · Spanish real estate origination
SITUATION

International investors targeting Spanish residential and mixed-use real estate needed a disciplined professional filter before approaching sellers, developers and brokers across Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Valencia and selected Tier 2 markets.

WHAT WE DID

We helped define investment criteria, target locations and exit logic; reviewed deal size, unit count and planning status across build-to-sell, rehabilitation and hold strategies; and coordinated licensed local partners, separating advisory, brokerage and structuring roles clearly.

OUTCOME

A repeatable real estate origination framework with clear filters, investor-facing presentation logic and defined partner roles. Cross-border tax considerations were coordinated with the client's own advisers where conditions applied.

Anonymised mandate — client identity and figures withheld for confidentiality.

Montclare is a structuring, advisory and asset management firm. We manage real estate and investment holdings directly. For regulated activities — discretionary securities or fund portfolio management, banking, lending, and the notarial incorporation of companies — we work with the licensed providers and managers who hold those permissions. Real estate sits within our Asset Management practice.

FURTHER MANDATES

More of the work

We do not name clients. Discretion is part of the service.

Northern European family office · Spanish real estate acquisition

A family office from northern Europe was considering the acquisition or development of Spanish real estate, individual assets or a small portfolio in the three to twenty million euro range, across residential and hospitality. The question was not which asset to buy. It was whether the transaction as a whole made sense once tax, structure, financing and eventual exit were included.

Outcome. The client saw the whole transaction before committing capital. The decision rested on net return rather than headline yield, and on tax exposure, ownership structure, financing and future liquidity. On transactions of this type, the structure alone can account for a meaningful part of the distance between gross and net return.

European business family · Patrimonial architecture and succession

The founder of a European business family held operating companies, real estate and financial assets across more than one jurisdiction, accumulated over years without a design. Operating risk, patrimonial assets, family liquidity, investments and succession all sat in the same undifferentiated space, exposed to personal, fiscal and generational risk at once.

Outcome. The family obtained a clearer separation between operating risk and family wealth, and a framework for succession decided in advance rather than under pressure. The value was not principally tax. In family wealth, a poor structure destroys value at exactly the wrong moments: inheritance, sale, divorce, family disagreement or a change of residence.
